Akiko Ban’s sculptures explore the notion of spirituality in a deeply physical and personal way. Ban aspires to ”generate being from life”, where her actions manifest themselves in “natural phenomena”, allowing natural forces to shape or effect elements of the work. A careful and deliberate casting method is combined with an indeterminate natural process, producing unique organic forms. Ban creates sculptures that aim to work a recurrent fluid form through all of its physical possibilities. We went to the venue “Nolias Gallery @ aBecket” in south London to see how it’s like and what we can do there.
It’s a quite spacious venue with bar facilities and there is a little stage for live performance.
Drink and food will be served at the private view on 2nd October (next weekend), exciting!

According to the gallery’s website, the venue was “previously hosting a boxing club, the space has a great sense of history including the fact that David Bowie wrote Ziggy Stardust in an upstairs room”.
